Rum Doodle is based on a book called The Ascent of Rum Doodle which is a short novel by W. Another book worth reading is “The ascent of Rum Doodle” – I read this book when I was in Greenland in 2004 but there are two copies kicking round camp so I hope to get to reread soon. Another thriller I'd recommend would be Frederick Nolan's Mittenwald Syndicate. A bumbling group of British mountaineers mounts an assault on Rum Doodle, a slightly higher neighbor of Everest, in Bowman's parody novel, which was published in 1956 and became a classic within the climbing community. Chicago: Academy Chicago Publishers, 1988. Read by a selection of Britain's most-loved actors. The Ascent of Rum Doodle by W.E. Oversized egos, sensationalised dramas and a tendency towards solipsism can be self-defeating, as WE Bowman's parody The Ascent of Rum Doodle (1956) makes hilariously clear. Anyway I'm back in Paris now, after nearly a week camping in the forest of Fontainebleau in a trip in which so much went wrong it became a parody of itself, like some sort of bouldering version of The Ascent of Rum Doodle. Also Moonfleet by Falkner and the Ascent of Rum Doodle (a cult classic). "Parody of mountaineering manuscripts."
